Safer recruitment is about ensuring that:
All jobs are advertised and filled in the same way to ensure consistency and fairness in meeting employment laws. Applications are only accepted via the jobsgopublic website linked lower down. Interviews are carried out in a planned, consistent manner, by a panel with at least one 'safer recruitment' trained member.
Applications are sifted to select the people who initially appear to meet the criteria in the job profile. Interviews probe further to get a fuller understanding of a candidate's skills, knowledge and experience (and address any gaps or concerns). Sometimes a task will be used to further understand a candidate's capability for the role. The person who best fits as the most capable/ appropriate is then selected as the desired candidate.
A robust system of checks is then carried out before recruiting the desired candidate. As a school and because of our work with children we are exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders act that governs most employers recruitment processes to avoid unfair discrimination against spent offences. We ensure that every member of staff is thoroughly vetted prior to starting work and rechecks are undertaken regularly. Supervision, risk assessments, probationary periods and re-checks are also used as tools to ensure staff are appropriately engaged at the school and that pupils are safeguarded.

Interviews are carried out for all positions in the school and you should ensure that you are ready. There may be a task or preparation involved so please read your invitation letter carefully. Try not to be too nervous, we simply want to find the right person for the job, we are not trying to trick you or catch you out, so don't be afraid to ask us to repeat or rephrase a question if you don't quite understand what we are asking. If you think for some reason you might be late phone ahead as we may be able to rearrange. If you need assistance in attending your interview (for example because of a disability) simply contact the school and we will be happy to help where we can.
Where the need arises (for example during the COVID19 pandemic) we will undertake interviews by video link using Zoom. Please click below and ensure that you are familiar with how to use zoom if you are offered an interview. It is useful to have trial run with a friend. Thank you.
We will contact all interviewees to let them know if they have been successful. The chosen candidate will be asked if they accept the position and sent an offer in writing to confirm. Then they will need to click the page below and start completing the relevant checks and paperwork. All offers are subject to these checks and paperwork.
If for any reason your checks are not clear or you have been untruthful we will seek further clarification (discussions with you/ professional advisers) which may lead to the offer being withdrawn in certain rare circumstances.
