Pupil Voice & School Council

Pupil voice is about how listen to and actively seek the views of the children in our school.  The most formal way in which we do this is through our school council.  See below for more information on our School Council.

School Council gives our children a voice in the development of Whybridge Infant School and the local community.


Why do we have a School Council?

The School Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation, as well as an introduction to democracy. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.


Who can be a member of the School Council?

We have an active School Council with a boy and girl representing their fellow pupils from all classes in Year 1 and Year 2. Each councillor is elected by their classmates at the beginning of the school year after a short presentation explaining why they should be elected. During the Summer Term one child from each Reception class will join the meetings.


What do we do?

Members of the Council take part in discussions and votes and also feedback any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council. Members meet regularly with Mrs Lawrence.

Harvest festival


In October we collected food to donate to the Rainham Foodbank. The school council organised the food and put it into boxes so it could be delivered to the foodbank.
