UK Central Government & Department for Education

Her Majesty's Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the recognised national authority governing the whole of the UK centrally.  It is formed by the party with the most members of parliament (representatives elected by UK citizens in constituencies).  It administers taxes to deliver and run central services as well as granting funds to local authorities for local services.  It establishes departments and agencies to run the central services and one of these departments is the Department for Education (DfE)

The DfE issues national statutory guidance on how local education must be delivered.  It issues grants to local authorities to maintain schools through its Education & Skills Funding Agency.  The Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) regulates and inspects education, skills and childcare providers, such as schools and nurseries.  It liaises closely with the DfE but does not report to them.  It is an independent government department that reports to parliament.

As a school we are in the parliamentary constituency of Dagenham and Rainham.  We are funded by the DfE via the local authority and are bound by its statutory guidance.  We access many of the support services available from the DfE.  Our school's listing on the government website 'Get Information About Schools' can be found below.
